Sorry for the absence!! I’m finally free for the summer. Here’s some recent studies(been really into The Prince of Egypt<3) and a little homework. I didn’t do much work that I’m proud of last semester, so I’m trying to make up for it now :)
A bunch of people(this is 2 of 5) had questions about motivation recently, answers below the cut!
Anon 1) Yeah, totally. That feeling must be going around, cause I’ve been feeling terrible about my work for the last week or two (and in general, for the last few months at school.) Sometimes I really feel empty, nothing creative in me, no stories worth telling. But last week one of my favorite artists also mentioned having this exact same feeling! It made me feel so much better that even this person who inspires me so much(he’s about the same age as me, but SO much more skilled) has that feeling. You can do anything you’re dedicated to working towards, I promise. There’s lots of people who jump into art a little later but who have the dedication to work hard([x] for example) - and they can outrace everybody in just a couple years.
Anon 2) Hello! If you’ve got the passion for it, that’s all that matters. I really think you can learn everything you need about concept art online - that’s where I’ve learned everything I know, not in college. I feel the same way about my skill level all the time, everyone does. There’s always someone better and younger than you, but that should just be your motivation! There’s lots of people your age or older who suddenly decide to jump into concept art, and if you have the dedication and passion to work hard you really can get wherever you want to be in a couple years. I was listening to a podcast yesterday about Chris Campbell doing that. On forums like conceptart.org or permanoobs there’s lots of people working way harder than me, if you need some inspiration that’s the place to go. You can do it! (:
